Personal Assistants

Personal Assistant Scheme

 Why do we need a PA Scheme?

Disabled children and young people tell us they want support to do the things non-disabled peers do. They want to take part in ordinary activities like going to Cubs, Brownies, swimming lessons, bowling, concerts and hanging out with friends. They often need help with these things.

Parents of disabled children and young people tell us they would like their child to be doing these things but find the process of finding the right support worker or personal assistant daunting and time consuming.

What does the ibk PA scheme do?

We recruit and train people who are looking for work as a personal assistant. We will carry out CRB checks on all PAs using our service, and offer networking events for families and PAs.

What will the Personal Assistants gain from this job?

*   An introduction to young people and their families who will be the potential employers.

*   Valuable employment experience

*   An understanding of disability issues and good practice in inclusion

What will families gain from this scheme?

*   An introduction to PAs who have had initial disability and inclusion training and who are undergoing CRB checks - potential employees

*   Support with the recruitment process

*   Supervision of PAs

 We hope that the personal assistants, the disabled young people and their families will benefit from a relationship that celebrates the potential of disabled children and young people.
