Let Our Children Be

Let Our Children Be is a collection of stories from disabled families. There are stories from disabled children, their brothers and sisters and their parents.

Originally published in 1996, Let Our Children Be presents a glimpse of the family experience of living with impairment and disablement. Although legislation and practice have changed radically in the last 15 years, disabled children are still not always accepted as the individuals they are. They are often denied human rights.

Stories from Let Our Children Be have been used extensively in training courses around the world. We hope they will continue to inspire at the same time as encouraging more people to tell their stories.

"Our disabled children are often not accepted as the individuals they are. They are often denied human rights. We want all our children to belong in their local communities and to have ordinary lives."
(Pippa Murray & Jill Penman, 1996)
